Breast Reduction FAQs
1. Is breast reduction right for me?
If you want to change the size of your breasts, then breast reduction surgery can help you. Your breasts may cause you pain or discomfort, you may have uneven sized breasts, or you may just prefer to have smaller breasts.
Whatever the reason, if you're unhappy with your breasts, we’ll talk to you about achieving the look you want. Surgeons at Transform report that breast reduction is one of the most impactful in terms of having a positive outcome on people’s lives.
2. What about male breast reduction?
If you're a man looking to remove excess fatty tissue on your chest, please read our pages on male breast reduction surgery (gynaecomastia).
3. How is breast reduction surgery performed?
A breast reduction is carried out under general anaesthetic. The operation involves removing excess tissue and skin from your breasts before reshaping them to make them smaller. If required, your Surgeon will also reposition the nipple so it is in line with the middle of the upper arm for a natural look.
4. What results can I expect from a breast reduction?
Patients who undergo a breast reduction can expect to have smaller, firmer breasts. Many patients experience back pain as a result of large breasts. This can often be improved and in general terms, most patients find they can enjoy wearing outfits that previously wouldn't have been possible.
5. Who will perform my breast surgery?
At Transform, you’re in the care of highly qualified and experienced people every step of the way. All our medical professionals have a licence to practice and are registered with the General Medical Council.
We select only the most knowledgeable and skilled Surgeons so you can be sure you’ll get the results you want. Our Anaesthetists are Consultant Anaesthetists. That means they have the highest level of experience possible.
6. Where will my surgery take place?
You will be cared for in one of our regulated, UK cosmetic surgery hospitals. These are centres of clinical excellence and are regulated by the Care Quality Commission. As a breast surgery patient of Transform you will only ever experience exemplary standards of care, hygiene and facilities.
7. When can I go back to work after surgery?
A 2-night stay in one of our regulated cosmetic surgery hospitals will be required after your operation.
After that, we recommend breast reduction patients take at least 2 weeks holiday from work. Patients are advised not to wear underwired bras or undertake any strenuous exercise for at least 6 weeks after surgery to aid recovery.
8. Will I receive any breast surgery aftercare?
To ensure the best recovery, you’ll have a post-operative appointment with a clinic nurse and a review with your Surgeon. They’ll discuss your breast surgery and aftercare, check everything is healing well, and make sure you’re happy with the results.
If you have any questions or concerns after your procedure, you can also talk to our resident medical officer at any time on the 24/7 Transform Patient Helpline.
9. Am I at risk of getting scars?
A breast reduction requires incisions to be made during the operation. This will inevitably leave some scarring immediately after the surgery. However, these scars will fade after a short amount of time and your Surgeon will ensure that the incisions are made in discreet locations which are easily concealed.
10. Can I combine breast reduction with other surgeries?
As breast reduction is popular with women who have had children, you may also like to consider a tummy tuck or liposuction to help regain your figure.
11. How much does breast reduction cost?
Breast reduction surgery prices start from £5,200 which includes an overnight stay at a Transform hospital and aftercare. At Transform, we offer flexible finance options so you can spread the cost of your breast reduction surgery.
