Deviated septum or cosmetic nose job?
23 April 2008

It is a common excuse for people to say they are having a
deviated septum fixed when they are actually undergoing cosmetic
rhinoplasty, a surgeon has told US OK! magazine.
According to Dr Kevin Tehrani, Jennifer Aniston - who had a
deviated septum fixed - may have also had a cosmetic nose job
because the tip and bridge look different.
While the tip was described as "very defined", the bridge looks
"narrower", he added.
"It's very common for people to say they're correcting a deviated
septum when they are, in fact, getting cosmetic nose surgery," Dr
Tehrani opined.
However, OK! magazine reiterated Aniston's claim that the procedure
she underwent was purely for medical reasons.
It quoted her as saying that even though it was a "boring"
explanation, there was nothing artificial about her nose.
Interestingly, Aniston's character in long-running sitcom Friends
Rachel Green had also undergone rhinoplasty to correct a deviated
septum. The term is applied when the nasal septum is displaced -
something which can either happen at birth or as a result of impact
trauma, such as a blow to the face.
