Cellulite Treatment FAQs

What is cellulite?

Usually a feminine phenomenon, cellulite results from a build up of fat in the adipocytes (sub cutaneaous fat cells), and the retention of water in the surrounding areas. As the adipocytes continue to grow, their envelopes containing them lose their shape and pull on their cutaneous anchoring points, giving the skin its "orange peel" appearance.

At this stage, the main problem is that the process is self-sustaining as a result of a reduction in blood circulation, causing stagnation of the metabolic waste, nutritional impoverishment and congestion of the connective tissue, which loses its elasticity and becomes fibrous. This unsightly condition results in cellulitic areas that are unresponsive to physical exercise and to the strictest slimming diets.

Who will cellulite treatment benefit?

If you have cellulite on your legs, bottom or arms, and would like smoother and more radiant skin tone, then you should explore both treatments available for cellulite. People who have tried to rid their bodies of cellulite using a strict diet and exercise are encouraged to try one of the treatments, which are both particularly good for eliminating stubborn patches of cellulite. The above treatments can also be used to improve skin tone and radiance generally, and the appearance of scar tissue and burns.

How is the cellulite treatment done?

Endermologie is a unique non -invasive technique for shaping the body, slimming and improving overall skin fitness. Endermologie® is an easy and comfortable alternative to liposuction, body wraps and messy creams. The treatment involves the use of a motorised device with two adjustable rollers and controlled suction, which pulls the skin into a small chamber in which it is gently pinched and rolled. Collagen and elastin production is boosted generating a healthier rejuvenated skin tone. The dramatic improvement to the look of the skin is also attributed to the deep stimulation of the circulation. It brings a massive surge of blood and oxygen to the affected areas and increases the lymphatic drainage of stagnant toxic waste. Most clients describe the treatment as similar to a deep body massage. All patients will be given their own personal body stocking, which needs to be brought along to each session.

The VelaSmooth™ is the first medical device for cellulite. The VelaSmooth combines vacuum suction, mechanical rollers, and heating through infrared light and bipolar RF energy. Reduction in cellulite and contouring are the treatment goals for VelaSmooth™. Using the VelaSmooth system patients have an odourless, colourless gel applied to the area to be treated prior to applying mechanical rollers.

How long will the cellulite treatment take?

Treatment times may vary depending on how many treatment areas and the total surface area treatment. Typical treatment time ranges from 45-60 minutes. A course of between 15-20 treatment sessions is usually recommended.

What results can I expect from cellulite treatment?

Most patients achieve noticeable changes in contouring and skin tightening after 10 sessions, and first start seeing a difference after the first 5-6 treatment sessions. Treatments are performed once or twice weekly. Following a course of treatments maintenance sessions are needed to maintain the results of the course. How long is the recovery period from cellulite treatment?

There is no recovery period from the cellulite treatments.

Are there any after effects from cellulite treatment?

With the VelaSmooth system there is some pinkness to the skin and the areas feel warm for a short while after a completed treatment session. Normal activities are resumed the next day. Some patients may experience bruising in the treated areas, especially if they are prone to bruising easily.

With the CACI endermologie system there should not be any noticeable side effects.
