How intense pulsed light works

IPL technology is a class of laser. It generates intense bursts of red or blue light. These cause heat damage to dermal tissue without harming or removing the outer epidermal layers of the skin. The body’s natural processes then work to break down and remove these marks. The appearance of any skin imperfection is then visibly reduced.

IPL treatment

A fully trained Transform aesthetician who undergoes continuous training will perform your IPL treatment. A cooling gel is first applied to the area to be treated and you will be asked to wear protective eyewear.

A state-of-the-art Lumenis One or Quantum IPL machine is then gently applied. This delivers precise pulses of light that destroy the pigment or vessel of the imperfection without damaging surrounding tissue. To ensure there is no damage, we only allow fully trained and qualified aestheticians to perform this procedure.

It’s pain-free but you may experience a slight tingling sensation and have some redness after for an hour or so.

How long does it take?

Each treatment takes around 20 minutes and you will be able to leave the clinic immediately after your session. Your personal treatment plan put together by your Transform aesthetician may recommend a series of treatments to achieve the best results. Around 6 treatments at 3 week intervals is usually required. We also recommend a top-up treatment once or twice a year to maintain your rejuvenated skin.

The results

Skin appears fresher, rejuvenated and younger-looking even after just a few treatments. The benefits of a full course can last up to a year.

The appearance of broken blood vessels, skin blemishes, rosacea, birthmarks, sun damage and pigmentation marks are reduced. Visible results can be dramatic. Increased collagen production tones and improves elasticity of the skin to combat fine lines and wrinkles.

IPL with other treatments

IPL is effective in itself but a combination of treatments could enhance results further. Other treatments capable of giving you firmer, younger-looking skin include microdermabrasion and facial peels. Deep lines or wrinkles might also benefit from line and wrinkle smoothing or dermal fillers treatment.
