Hair Transplantation Treatment
I
f you suffer from
hair loss it can be an
extremely distressing condition. Although it does affect many women
in the UK, hair loss is mainly associated with men.
The reason for this is that men are genetically predisposed to the
effects of the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone) which disrupts the
normal pattern of hair growth. DHT causes the hair follicle to
shrink and over time this results in total or partial baldness
(often referred to as male pattern baldness in men).
Transform offers one of the most advanced and effective forms of
hair transplantation available for men and women. We have some of
the most experienced hair transplantation surgeons operating in the
UK today who are members of the prestigious International Society
of Hair Restoration (ISHR) and the British Trichological Society
(BTSoc), in what is a very specialised cosmetic surgical
procedure.
In addition Transform has an experienced team of hair transplant
clinical nurses who work alongside our specialist surgeons - This
is a very important part of the procedure and people looking for
hair transplantation should check that their surgeon is supported
by a specially trained team.
Many companies offer hair transplantation services but few
companies can offer a free consultation with an actual surgeon, or
provide the level of expertise that is available at Transform to
deliver a completely natural looking, permanently fuller head of
hair.
Hair Loss/ Transplantation Surgery & Treatments - FAQs
Hair Loss Treatment with Transform?
At an initial consultation with Transform our surgeon will
examine your hair and scalp and discuss your preferences and
expectations, as well as advising you on the best approach to
achieve your aims with an assessment of what results might
reasonably be expected.
What does hair transplantation involve?
At Transform we use the most suitable method for the individual,
which we establish at the consultation. Hair transplantation
involves relocating hair follicles from the back and sides of the
head to a person’s bald or thinning area. The transplanted hair
follicles will typically grow hair for a lifetime because they are
genetically resistant to going bald. In recent years hair
transplantation techniques have evolved from using large plugs and
mini grafts to exclusively using large numbers of small grafts and
this technique is called Follicular Unit Transplantation.
Today’s most advanced techniques can achieve a natural
appearance by mimicking nature hair for hair.
How do I know that my surgeon is properly qualified to do this
procedure?
We would recommend the surgeons performing hair transplantation
are members of the ISHR and or ESHRS, non-profit medical
associations which provide education for surgeons specialising in
hair transplant and restoration techniques. Because this is such a
specialised procedure many cosmetic surgeons are not really
qualified to perform hair transplantation and we would encourage
you to ask any provider of this procedure for their
affiliations.
Are the nurses properly trained to assist the surgeon?
Unlike many other cosmetic procedures where a surgeon can take
any nurse to theatre a hair transplant dictates that the team of
nurses are highly skilled and experienced with this procedure. A
hair transplant is a very specialised skill and the training period
for our nurses usually takes around six months.
What results can I expect?
With the experience and artistry of our surgeons who have
performed thousands of hair transplantations along side our team of
nurses you will achieve a very natural result. The hair normally
starts to grow gradually around three months until ultimately
taking on the exact thickness and characteristics of your other
hair.
What is the recovery period?
Although there is no recovery period as such, we would recommend
a week off work.
Is it painful?
Hair transplantation is done under local anesthetic so the area
is completely numb during the procedure during which time you will
be awake. After the procedure is done there may be some minor
itching while the transplantation takes effect.
What are the alternatives?
If you’re looking for a guarantee of more hair despite want many
may tell you the only way to achieve this is with a hair
transplant. If however you are happy with the amount of hair that
you have and would like to just maintain the existing hair we would
recommend Propecia which is the only licensed product in the world
suitable for use on male pattern hair loss.
How much does it cost?
Depending on the size of the area a hair transplant usually
starts from around £2,500
