Why consider a facelift?

Sometimes the way we feel on the inside idoesn't reflect the way we look on the outside. Lines and wrinkles, loose skin, lack of muscle tone and skin elasticity are all signs of ageing that can make you feel self-conscious and lacking in confidence.

With added lifestyle factors like too much sun exposure, smoking and even significant weight loss, your face can appear prematurely saggy, sunken and lined.

Many women now choose to have a facelift to bring back a youthful, fresher looking appearance. A facelift tightens the facial muscles to restore definition and the skin is also tightened to smooth out deep lines. You can choose to refine the appearance of your lower face including the jaw and neckline, or lift your jaw and neck areas only. The results are natural and long-lasting.

Please be aware that a facelift won’t get rid of fine lines and wrinkles like those around your lips and eyes. We offer a full range of line and wrinkle smoothing treatments to tackle these areas.

At your appointment with one of our Patient Care Co-ordinators, you'll be able to view a selection of before and after photographs of our previous patients surgery.

Facelift - about the procedure

A facelift can take up to six hours to complete in the hands of one of our skilled surgeons. You’ll then stay overnight in one of our Transform hospitals. These are purpose built for cosmetic surgery with specially trained medical staff, so you’ll receive expert care at all times.

Your surgeon will have discussed the exact details of your facelift procedure before your surgery. During the operation, incisions will be made in your hairline, behind your ears and/or under your chin. Your surgeon will then carefully separate your skin from underlying tissues before removing excess fat and tightening the facial muscles and tissues. Your skin is then pulled taut and stitched back into place, with any excess skin removed.

After surgery

Your face will be wrapped in bandages – which you may need for a few days – and you’ll feel sore, swollen and bruised. We’ll provide pain relief and keep you comfortable until you’re ready to go home.

You should plan to take two weeks off work to recover, or three weeks if you’ve also had eye bag or eyelift surgery. Your bruises should fade after two weeks, though it could be 12 weeks before the swelling completely subsides. This is when you should see the final result of your facelift.

You’ll come back to have your stitches removed about a week after surgery. If you’ve had dissolvable stitches these should disappear in about six weeks; we’ll still see you to check on your progress though. We’ll give you plenty of advice on recovering at home and what to expect. We’ll also give you our 24/7 patient helpline number so you can speak to a member of our clinical team day or night.  If you have any worries at all, just call.

Side effects, risks and complications

There is the small risk of complications with any surgical procedure, and we’ll talk to you about these before you book your facelift. You’ll also have our Facelift Patient Guide with more detailed information. If you have any further concerns at all, don’t hesitate to speak to your surgeon.

With you every step of the way

If you’re considering having a facelift, your first step is to book an appointment. One of our Patient Care Co-ordinators will talk you through the whole process from pre-op to aftercare and approximate costs.

Then we’ll invite you to a free consultation with one of our facelift surgeons. This is when you’ll talk about the results you’d like to see from your facelift and the best surgical method to achieve your aims. You’ll be under no obligation at all to go ahead.

If you’d like to see how each stage of the process works, take a look at our step-by-step guide. At Transform, we’re here to advise and support you at all times.

Facelift surgery prices

There’s no standard price for a facelift as each patient’s needs are different and you may have additional procedures at the same time. But for guidance our facelift costs start at £5,625 including all pre-operative care and our three year aftercare programme.

To help you manage the cost of your facelift, we work in partnership with a specialist finance provider to offer loans and credit options. Please see our cosmetic surgery finance page for more details.
