Ask Mamuna: How to prepare your skin for winter
How to prepare your skin for winter
Our Senior Medical Aesthetician from York Street gives fool-proof advice on how to maintain beautiful skin this winter…
With the harsh cold snap of winter fast approaching, we are all too aware of the ill effects it has on our health and how this can affect our skin. Whilst we visit our GP to combat cold and flu symptoms, it’s not always easy to protect our skin during the blustery months.
The secret in finding the right products and treatment to suit our skin needs is not always as easy as reaching into the medicine cabinet. If you have sensitive, dehydrated, chapped or sallow skin, it’s confusing to know where to begin to restore it.
These simple steps will slot effortlessly into your day and will have you feeling rejuvenated and resurrected right up to the Christmas party season.
Hope you enjoy them! Mamuna x
Start with a good skin care routine
Ø Cleanse/Prepare – Maintaining a good cleansing and toning skincare regime is essential whatever the season. A cleanser and toner will refresh and invigorate your skin’s appearance by rehydrating and balancing the skin. Cleansers remove dead skin cells, make-up, natural oil and environmental impurities without causing any irritation to the skin, leaving your skin feeling soft, supple and set for the day ahead. Top tip? Use toners first thing in the morning for maximum effect.
Skincare value: Designed to prepare skin for daily moisturising, as well as invigorating tired looking skin.
Ø Correct/Boost – Moisturisers are enriched with nutritional essentials that are instantly absorbed into the skin and help to replenish and lock in moisture. The purpose of a moisturiser is to provide real magnetism and strength and is designed to perform and help achieve a radiant appearance. As well as hydrating fine lines and wrinkles and helping repair damaged skin, sufficient hydration helps the skin to remain softer, plumper and healthier.
Skincare value: Helps to nourish and hydrate the skin.
Ø Restore/Protect – The most essential aspect of any skin care practice should include a SPF50+ sunscreen, applied daily and all year round. Without sunscreen, UVA and UVB rays can cause extensive damage by breaking down our collagen and elastin, resulting in premature ageing and increasing the risk of pigmentation and photo-damaged skin.
Skincare value: Added protection.
Which skincare products can I try?
Ø De-hydrated, ageing skin – Our Epionce Nourishing Cream and our Obagi Vitamin C helps to give added hydration and nutrients to the skin, leaving the skin truly replenished. Those that particularly benefit from this, are those who produce very little natural oil in their skin.
Often, dehydrated skin is typically just thirsty for moisture, feeling tight and uncomfortable with visible and prominent lines and wrinkles. With severe weather conditions, this can continue to play havoc with our skin and can often leave the skin feeling uncomfortable and damaged beyond repair.
Ø Rough, congested skin – Our approach to looking good and improving the health of your skin is at present, much sought after. During the winter months, it’s especially essential to remove dead skin cells to ensure a healthy glow. Rejuvenation treatments such as Microdermabrasion and skin peels help to reinstate the skin’s health. Once dead and damaged skin cells have been removed, the skin immediately feels and looks smoother, as well as reducing pore size, improving the tone and texture of the skin, declogging/congesting and reducing skin blemishes, reducing spots and leaving the skin feeling fresher and healthier. Be sure to book in for treatment once every 2 weeks to buff away tired cells and to stimulate and regenerate healthy skin, that will leave skin feeling super soft and smooth.
