1.
Breast Lift With Or Without Implants
If your breasts just aren’t the same since having children and they seem to have dropped due to breastfeeding, then breast uplift surgery could help to reshape them and give you a tighter, more uplifted profile. And if you’ve lost volume due to pregnancy or ageing, then you could also combine this surgery with a breast enlargement.
2.
Tummy Tuck
Pregnancy can leave you with excess, sagging skin in the stomach area, or ‘tummy bulges’ that are resistant to diet and exercise. Tummy tuck surgery could reshape your abdomen to give you a flatter, smoother profile, and can also provide muscle placation or muscle tightening to stretch abdominal muscles, so that your firmer shape can be maintained afterwards.
3.
Liposuction
This removes fat and contours the body. It’s one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures for patients who are looking for fat loss from various parts of the face and body, including the chin, stomach, buttocks, and thighs. In a mummy makeover, liposuction is most often performed in the stomach area in order to achieve a smoother, more contoured profile.
4.
Labiaplasty/ Vaginal Tightening
The labia can become stretched during childbirth, but this procedure can reduce the size and define the appearance of the inner labia. Often, vaginal muscles become loose and weak after having children – vaginal tightening surgery can change the way your vagina feels and functions, bringing back more tone and control as well as enhancing sensation during sex.
A ‘mummy makeover’ is the name given to a group of cosmetic procedures that can be combined to rejuvenate parts of the body that have been changed due to pregnancy and childbirth. Some of the most popular procedures included in a mummy makeover include a tummy tuck, breast uplift, liposuction, thigh lift, and vaginal rejuvenation. The procedures can be tailored to give you your desired results.
Depending on the procedures you choose to combine in your mummy makeover, it can offer many benefits, including improved self-esteem. It can also make physical activity more comfortable, and if you include vaginal rejuvenation, can help improve sexual function.
As the procedure incorporates multiple surgeries at once, it also means that your recovery and downtime will be less than if you had these surgeries individually.
Each surgery carries its own risks and potential side effects. Although mummy makeover surgery is a popular procedure, it comes with the following risks:
Common side effects that should be expected in the days following the procedure include swelling and discomfort which can be managed with suitable pain medication.
The exact nature of your surgery will depend on which procedures you are having. You will be given general anaesthetic, meaning that you will be asleep for the duration of the surgery. Your surgeon will then begin with the first procedure.
Breast augmentation
If you are having a breast augmentation as part of your mummy makeover, your surgeon will begin by making an incision in the skin at the side or below your breast. They will then position the implant either behind or in front of your chest muscle, depending on your desired results. Your incisions are then stitched and covered with dressings.
Breast uplift
Your surgeon will begin by making incisions in your breasts, which will be determined by the technique they are using. The skin from around your areola will be removed, and possibly some skin from underneath your breast.
If you are having a breast enlargement at the same time, your surgeon will insert implants either behind or in front of your chest muscle.
Your surgeon will then reshape your breasts to be tighter and your nipples will be repositioned higher up. The incisions will be closed with stitches and dressed to protect them.
Liposuction
Your surgeon will make a small incision in the skin in the targeted area. Using a cannula, they will break up the fatty tissue and remove it with suction. Several incisions might be made if the area is larger. Your incisions will be stitched once this is complete, and the area will be bandaged to aid healing.
Tummy tuck
You may choose to have a partial or full tummy tuck as part of your mummy makeover surgery.
During a partial tummy tuck, your surgeon will make an incision across the lower part of your stomach to separate the skin from the abdominal wall below your belly button. They then remove the excess fat and skin.
With a full tummy tuck, your surgeon will make a large incision across your lower tummy from hip to hip. They will then make another incision to free your belly button from the tissue surrounding it. They will separate the skin from the abdominal wall, realign your abdominal muscles and remove any excess fat and skin. They will cut a new hole for your belly button before stitching it back in place.
Vaginoplasty
If you are having this procedure, your surgeon will mark out a pie-shaped wedge of extra skin to be removed from inside the vagina. The tissue underneath the skin is tightened with sutures, and all incisions are closed. If there is extra skin the protrudes on the outside, this will be removed for a more aesthetic result.
The procedures you have will vary depending on your desired results.
If your body has changed following pregnancy and childbirth, you might consider mummy makeover surgery to rejuvenate and tighten certain areas of your body. While there is no specific criteria for this kind of surgery, it is best if you are not planning to have more children in the future.
Your recovery will depend on which procedures you had as part of your mummy makeover surgery. The more procedures you have, the longer your recovery time will be. As a general guide, you should expect to take up to 4 weeks off work, depending on the nature of your job. You should also avoid exercise and heavy lifting for up to 6 weeks following your surgery.
Depending on your procedures, you may have to wear compression garments for a period of time following your surgery. These will help to control swelling, and your surgeon will advise you on how long you should wear these for. You’ll experience some discomfort, swelling and bruising for the first few weeks, and can manage this with appropriate pain medication.
The final results of your surgery will begin to appear around 2 months post-op.
