Are you looking to quicken your recovery? Hilotherapy is a safe, natural way to promote faster healing after a range of cosmetic and non-cosmetic procedures – including non-surgical – helping you return to your day-to-day life as soon as possible.

What is hilotherapy?

Hilotherapy is a natural therapy designed to aid your recovery after cosmetic and non-cosmetic treatments, including non-surgical procedures. It is one of the most effective post-surgery therapies available. By cooling water and pumping it through an anatomically-fitted cuff, hilotherapy helps to relieve pain, swelling, and reduce the potential of bruising.

Hilotherapy has been used successfully by patients recovering from:

  • Face lifts
  • Brow lifts
  • Blepharoplasty
  • Breast augmentation
  • Gynaecomastia
  • Rhinoplasty
  • Liposuction
  • Dermal fillers

As the temperature of the water is controlled (unlike with ice), there is no time limit on how long you can use hilotherapy. Many patients use it very intensively immediately after their procedure.

Why is hilotherapy better than ice?

With hilotherapy, the temperature of the water can be accurately controlled, preventing the tissue from becoming so cold that it hinders, rather than helps, the recovery process. That means treatment can be received for prolonged periods – and recovery periods can be quickened.

The precise temperature control also allows treatment to given at the most effective temperature for the affected body part.

What hilotherapy devices are available?

Two different devices are available to cool and pump water through your hilotherapy cuff.

The HTP1 device

The HTP1 device has a temperature range of 15-22°C. It has an internal cooling unit and does not require ice packs. The HTP1 works with a single cuff, so it is ideal for treating one area at a time.

The Homecare device

The Homecare device has a temperature range of 10-22°C. It uses ice packs for initial cooling before regulating the temperature. Ice packs are provided but need to be swapped every two-to-four hours. You can use two cuffs with the Homecare device, so you can treat two areas at the same time.

What do hilotherapy users say?

“The machine was the best aid to my recovery. I don’t know what I would have done without it. At my follow-up hospital appointment, they said the swelling went down so much more than other patients in my position – and I feel this is due to the machine.”

KH, following maxillofacial surgery

“I used the treatment for two weeks following facial surgery. I found it a great comfort and it really helped to reduce the swelling quickly. I’ve had several extremely painful operations on my shoulder in the past. I wish I’d known about hilotherapy then!”
