I had top surgery with Ioannis Ntanos at The Pines, all the way through the treatment was amazing. I had non-binary top surgery at Transform Clinic on July 5th and I could not be more thrilled with my results and with my experience at the clinic! All of the staff and nurses were SO lovely, they made me feel so safe and comfortable and they all treated me with such care and respect! The hospital itself was lovely and clean and my room had everything I could possibly need - including a shower!! I was offered lots of options for food after my procedure and the red pepper and hummus sandwich I ended up choosing was absolutely delicious! As far as the procedure itself, it went without complication and I was able to be discharged the same afternoon! I’ve had minimal pain or discomfort and have been able to get back to relative normal within my first week post-op - I’m also totally obsessed with how my chest looks, I literally could not be happier with how everything went!!!!!!

Your First Appointment

This will last around 90 minutes and include a short form-filling exercise for your previous and current health conditions, specifically focusing on your gender-affirming needs.

The Surgery

Gender-affirming surgery, unlike some quicker procedures, typically requires more time due to its complexity and the need for meticulous attention to detail. On the day of your surgery, after meeting with your surgeon at least one week prior, you will undergo a thorough pre-operative assessment, including repeat scans or evaluations and a final consultation to review your surgical plan.

Once in the operating theatre, which might take several hours depending on the specific procedures involved (such as chest reconstruction, facial feminization, or genital surgery), the surgical team will begin by administering general anesthesia to ensure you are completely comfortable throughout the procedure. You may feel some pressure or manipulation during the surgery, particularly as the surgeon works to create results that align with your gender-affirming goals.

The length of the procedure can vary, typically ranging from 1 to 4 hours or more, depending on the type of surgery and the extent of modifications required. After the surgery, you will be taken to a recovery area where you can rest and recover. Here, your nurse will guide you through post-operative care instructions and ensure you have a clear understanding of your aftercare regimen. This includes how to manage discomfort, care for incisions, and monitor your healing process.

Aftercare

Before you are discharged, your surgeon will perform a final check to ensure that the surgical site is healing well and that there are no immediate concerns. Once cleared, you will be able to return home with your designated driver, with a follow-up plan in place to monitor your recovery and address any questions or concerns you may have as you heal.
