Labia reduction

Labia reduction, or labiaplasty, is a procedure for making the labia smaller or a different shape. While this can be a sensitive subject, there’s no need to worry. At Transform, you can be sure we’ll take care of you – and your privacy.

You may have found that after childbirth your labia has changed shape or become larger, or this may have happened as part of ageing. We understand that this can leave you feeling self-conscious and even affect your sexual confidence. By changing the shape or size of your labia, this surgery can help you regain your confidence and make sporting activities and wearing tighter clothing more comfortable.

Here at Transform, our team guides many women each year through their labia surgery and you can rest assured that you’re in expert hands with our surgeons. Get in touch and start your journey to being the best you.

More details on labia reduction

When you come to Transform, the entire experience is designed around you and your needs. We’ll listen carefully to your aspirations for being the best you, and you’ll receive all the confidential advice and support you need throughout your journey with us. Here’s a step-by-step guide to what you can expect.

Labia reduction step-by-step

The first step is to meet your female patient advisor. You’ll be able to talk to them in confidence about why you’re considering labia reduction surgery, the likely costs and finance options, how much time you’ll probably need to take off work, and when you’d like to have the surgery. If you feel ready, we’ll then book you in for your free consultation with one of our surgeons.

At your free consultation, your surgeon will ask you about the results you want to achieve from the surgery. You can discuss every aspect of labia reduction without embarrassment, and talk about any worries you might have – such as the effects on genital sensitivity and future childbirth, the benefits and risks – with no obligation to go ahead. Our surgeons are extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions you have. If you feel ready to go ahead and book your surgery, they’ll then refer you to a clinic nurse who’ll perform some pre-op tests and procedures.

Your labiaplasty procedure can usually be performed under local anaesthetic at one of our Transform hospitals, so you should be able to return home the same day. On the day of your surgery, you’ll meet with your surgeon so you can go through the consent form and ask any last-minute questions. You’ll then be introduced to the rest of your surgical team before going into theatre. Labia reduction surgery takes between one and two hours. Your surgeon will carefully make any incisions ensuring as much as possible that scarring will be minimised around the labia, and the incisions are then closed with dissolvable sutures.

We’ll be here throughout the recovery process to help you recuperate quickly and safely. You’ll be looked after by the same nurse and surgeon throughout your hospital stay, who will ensure your comfort and privacy at all times. Your surgeon will check that you’re properly recovered from the operation before discharging you. At this stage, you’ll feel very sore from your operation and won’t be able to drive, so you’ll need to make sure that you’ve made arrangements to get home. Before you leave hospital, we’ll give you our 24/7 patient helpline number if you need to speak to a member of our clinical team.

We believe that the highest quality aftercare is just as important as the surgery itself, so we’re here to support you. You’ll need to give your body plenty of time to heal and we’ll give you detailed guidance on the best way to do this. After surgery, you’ll be sore and swollen for a few days, and this usually settles completely after one to two weeks. Any pain can be managed by taking painkillers, and the swelling reduced with a wrapped ice pack. We recommend taking a week off work to make a full recovery, and after two to three weeks you should be able to see and feel the results of your labia reduction. The incisions usually heal and fade quickly. You’ll have a post-op check to ensure that everything is healing properly, and your surgeon will advise when you’re able to resume sexual activity. If you have any questions or concerns at all, you can contact our 24/7 helpline. All patients have access to our three-year aftercare programme as standard and you’ll have the option to extend cover to up to 10 years.
