How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal is designed to destroy the base of the hair follicle that is the source of new hair growth, without damaging the surrounding tissue, making the hair treated fall out. We can use one of two techniques do this, we will advise which treatment is best for you and likely to be most effective in producing your desired results*.
1. Laser treatment
Laser treatment uses a continuous laser to very gradually heat hair follicles to the point where the hair falls out.
2. Intense Pulse Laser (IPL)
IPL treatment uses individual pulses of laser light to precisely target hair follicles and is suitable for a wide range of hair and skin types. IPL can also be used to treat a variety of skin conditions including thread veins, sun spots and rosacea.
Most patients find that intiially the hair grows back in line with the normal hair growth cycle of 4 to 6 weeks. However, with each session, hair regrowth should be reduced and after a course of treatments you should only need a top-up treatments to maintain results*.
How many sessions will I need?
Your fully trained aesthetician will assess your individual needs, but generally, effective laser hair removal is achieved over a course of 6 to 8 treatments*. These will be spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart to treat hair regrowth and you should soon notice that there's less and less hair growing back each time. A top-up session will be required usually once a year to maintain smooth skin, however this is dependent on the individual.
