What is FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) hair transplant
FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction is a hair transplant technique in which our surgeons extract units of hair follicles from an area of dense hair growth, to an area of hair loss or alopecia.
FUE is often a popular option for patients as it is non-invasive and the scalp can recover faster than a traditional hair transplant.
What happens during the procedure?
A specialised punch is used to extract hair individually from your scalp. Initially your skin around the follicular unit is scored and then goes deeper into the softer skin tissue in order to extract the hair.
Your hair transplant surgeon uses healthy locks of hair and precisely and carefully transplants these into the hair loss area of your scalp. After a few months, this hair will grow normally and look entirely natural.
All of this can be usually completed in a morning or afternoon session at one of our hair transplant theatres in our hospitals.
What are the advantages of FUE?
- FUE is highly effective for replacing hair loss on moustaches or eyebrows due to the precise nature of the treatment
- FUE can be a better method of hair transplant treatment for patients with early stage hair loss
- Minimal scarring with FUE treatment and a natural look post-operation
