Since February, Transform Belfast clinic has been headed up by new manager Barbara Russell. Now she's settled in, we caught up with the new girl on the block for the low-down, the gossip on all things Belfast.
Welcome to Transform! What's your background?
Barbara: "I used to work as manager for a national aesthetics and laser treatments company, based here at their Belfast clinic, so I’m very experienced in a wide range of skincare treatments as well as what the Belfast customer needs. Before this I managed spas throughout County Donegal."
Why did you join the Transform team?
B: "I joined the company to bring my experience and knowledge to a renowned cosmetic company. I’m very passionate about what I do, so to have the opportunity to support Transform’s clients is fantastic; they are renowned for personalised, friendly service and have client self-esteem and satisfaction as their number one priority. I’m just really excited to be here and the first few months at the Belfast clinic have been great!"
Who else is in the Belfast clinic team?
B: "We’re a small team made up of myself; Heather is our Patient Care Co-ordinator. She manages our clients’ journeys with us and talks to them about the treatments that we offer. Belinda is our RGN (Registered General Nurse). We’ve also been recently joined by consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon Miss Julie Reid, who just happens to be the only vascular surgeon in Northern Ireland. She will be looking after our varicose and thread veins (aka spider veins) patients, offering her experience in the latest minimally invasive techniques including radioablation, ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy and microsclerotherapy. Varicose and thread veins can be itchy and unsightly and Julie can take you through the variety of non-invasive techniques (you won’t have to undergo varicose vein surgery) that can be used to reduce and eliminate thread and varicose veins from almost anywhere on the body."
And what can we expect from you and the team?
B: "When I first joined Transform and the clinic, I was overwhelmed by the passion and caring of my colleagues, for their patients. Our practitioners and aestheticians really get a buzz from the work they do and for me, I really enjoy seeing not only the results of treatments but the positive change it has on patients. We’re very friendly and welcoming at the clinic, you can expect it to feel like meeting up with friends."
What skincare treatments do you offer at the Belfast clinic?
B: "We offer a wide range of skincare treatments, suitable for those in their twenties, up to those in their sixties and even beyond. The most popular treatments include line and wrinkle smoothing, such as Botox®, chemical facial peels and dermal fillers for our mature clientele; lip enhancement and laser hair removal is very popular at the moment with our younger patients. We treat skin concerns such as acne scarring and excessive sweating and we can now remove varicose veins and thread veins."
If someone's interest in treatments can they pop in and see you?
B: "Of course! We’re located at 354 Lisburn Road, BT9 6GJ. You’ll find us on the left-hand side, just after Drumglass Park as you move further away from the city centre. Appointments are needed as we can get quite busy but if we’ve a spare slot we can always try and fit you in on a walk-in basis. Appointments are free and we can discuss your concerns and put together a treatment plan based on the results you want to achieve. Plus it’s always good to have a coffee and a natter!"
What's the best thing about your job?
B: “When our clients’ self esteem is boosted it really gives me a great deal of job satisfaction and is why I enjoy the job I do. I’ve had people come to me with unsightly veins on their legs and even people with deep, ice pick scarring. When they’ve undergone treatment and are really happy with their results, that’s what puts a smile on my face. Patients can meet us for an informal chat and we can share our knowledge and experience to provide them with a no pressure appointment where they can leave with the information they need."
What's to come in the future?
B: "We’re hosting a veins event next month and our vascular surgeon Julie Reid will be talking about the treatments we offer for varicose vein removal and thread vein removal. Anyone interested can meet the team and have a free one-to-one consultation to discuss their issues and we can take them through their options. Anyone interested can contact the clinic directly."
