Skin care for the Christmas party season

Christmas party ready skin

The festive season is nearly upon us, and with that comes a host of social engagements that require us to pluck, preen and pamper ourselves. Whether it’s a works Christmas party, a big family get-together or a crazy night out with the girls, we all want to look and feel our best for every occasion.

Whilst we spent countless hours looking for the perfect outfit to give us that show-stopping red carpet moment, what we don’t always consider is letting our skin take centre stage. So, in the spirit of the holiday season, we have put together a skin care guide that will not only help you stay party-ready but also ensure your skin survives everything you throw at it.

#1 Refresh dull looking skin

Our skin might be strong, but even the largest organ on our body faces challenges which can leave it vulnerable. Whether it’s the constant changes in the weather, smoke and pollution, or the hectic nature of our daily life, our skins’ natural defences are constantly put to the test.

Why not breathe new life into your skin with a microdermabrasion, which helps to revitalise the skin’s appearance through exfoliating and removing dead skin cells revealing much healthier looking skin. Alternatively, light skin peels including the Obagi blue radiance peel help encourage skin cell renewal, reduce signs of ageing and treat those annoying scars and blemishes. What’s more, applying makeup will be a breeze on your renewed, refreshed skin.

#2 Moisturise

This sounds like an obvious one to include on our list, but you will be surprised just how many people don’t moisturise on a regular basis. Regardless of your skin type, moisturising daily is important for locking in moisture, smoothing dry skin and improving its texture.

If you have dry skin, you may want to opt for a thicker ointment that will help restore and lock in moisture. For normal skin types, creams are thinner and easier to apply helping to hydrate and keep skin supple. Where skin is oily, select a lotion which is lighter and will not weigh down the skin or clog your pores.

When selecting a moisturiser, it is also important to choose a quality product that has natural and nourishing ingredients. One of our favourites is Epionce Ultra Shield lotion, great even for sensitive skin. It includes antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, whilst the inclusion of zinc oxide (one of the most effective sunscreen ingredients) protects your skin for UVA (ageing) and UVB (burning), important even during the winter months.

#3 Reduce dark circles and puffy eyes

The skin around eyes is incredibly delicate and requires extra attention. Puffiness, dark circles and fine lines are often the first signs of ageing, visibly showing the wear and tear we place on our skin.

To help brighten tired eyes and improve your complexion, you will need a combination of changes in lifestyle choices and specially-formulated eye care products. Ideally, you should aim for 8 hours sleep a night for your body to repair itself. To prevent fluid from building up around your face, leading to puffiness, sleep on your back with your head elevated above your body.

To help hide the effects of those late nights, we recommend Obagi’s ELASTIderm Eye products, which have a firming formula designed to strengthen the skin around the eyes, encouraging collagen and elastin production, reducing fine lines and promoting healthier looking skin.

Our clinics are now stocking Obaji Christmas crackers, which are pre-loaded with sumptuous eye gels and creams. To check them out, click here.

#4 Stay hydrated

The late nights and long hours dancing the night away can take its toll on even the most seasoned party girl. Keeping yourself hydrated from the inside, out is vital for maintaining your body’s status quo, and no, unfortunately, a glass or two of Prosecco won’t cut it.

Whilst drinking water alone isn’t necessarily the key to beautifully hydrated skin, an adequate intake of water does positively impact your overall health, aiding digestion and circulation. As an organ made up of cells, which need water to function properly, drinking water can help your skin become more resilient to stressors and the ageing process. For post-party hydration, why not try some warm water with a twist of lemon – both refreshing and hydrating!

#5 The perfect pout

As the weather gets colder, our lips become noticeably dryer and start to crack or chap. Not something we want when we have a festive night out planned! From licking and biting our lips to alcohol intake and not removing lipstick, there are multiple things that we do every day that can contribute to problem lips.

If you are looking to achieve supple, soft lips perfect for puckering up, Anti-Ageing Lip Renewal by Epionce is one of the best accessories to keep in your purse. With peppermint, avocado and safflower extract, this little wonder increases hydration, reduces visible lines around the mouth and reveal smoother lips.
