No matter how long you spend in the gym or how good your diet is, some people find that there are stubborn areas of fat on their body that just can’t be shifted. If this sounds familiar then CoolSculpting could be the right treatment for you. We’ve put together everything you need to know about this procedure, from how much CoolSculpting costs to what the treatment entails.

What is CoolSculpting and how does it work?

No matter how long we spend in the gym or at exercise classes, there always seems to be areas of fat that just won’t shift.

CoolSculpting, or fat freezing, involves cooling targeted fat cells to -11 degrees Celsius. At that temperature, the fat cells die and over the coming weeks are naturally processed by your body.

Based on Cryolipolysis® technology, CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared solution that involves no surgery, anaesthesia, needles or downtime. In fact, treating one area of the body can take just 35-45 minutes, depending on which area is being treated. The treatment can reduce fat across all body areas and gives you long-term results that you can maintain through healthy diet and exercise.

Areas of the body that can be treated with CoolSculpting include the stomach, flanks (love handles), chin, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, and the male chest area.

Why would you need CoolSculpting?

If you are finding it difficult to achieve the results you want from dieting and exercise alone, CoolSculpting might be for you. If you’re committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle after your treatments, you can enjoy the results for years to come.

Areas of the body that can be treated with CoolSculpting include the stomach, flanks (love handles), chin, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, and the male chest (moobs).

Understanding the CoolSculpting machine

The CoolSculpting machine is handheld and non-invasive, so there are no needles or anaesthetics to worry about.

First, your practitioner will fit a gel pad on your treatment area, before placing the applicator above that. The applicator is positioned to deliver controlled cooling and vacuum suction to the targeted fat. It also contains a sensor that automatically shuts down the system if it detects that your skin has dropped below -11 degrees Celsius.

What Happens During CoolSculpting?

Here’s a step-by-step guide to what you can expect during your CoolSculpting treatment at Transform.

Step by step guide

The first step is to meet your patient advisor. You’ll be able to talk to them about why you’re considering CoolSculpting, the likely costs and finance options, and when you’d like to have the treatment. If you feel ready, we’ll then book you in for your free consultation with one of our CoolSculpting experts.

At your free consultation, your practitioner will ask you about the results you want to achieve from the treatment. You can discuss every aspect of body contouring from the different methods and recovery time to the benefits and risks with no obligation to go ahead. Our practitioners are extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions you have. There are various methods of body contouring, from surgical liposuction for larger body areas to the less invasive procedures including vaser liposuction and CoolSculpting. Depending on the area you’re having treated and the amount of fat to be removed, your practitioner will discuss the best technique for you. If you feel ready to go ahead, we can book your treatment in for a date and time that suits you.

On the day of your CoolSculpting treatment, you’ll meet with your practitioner so you can go through any last-minute questions. As it’s a non-surgical procedure, it takes less than two hours to complete. A gel pad and applicator will be applied. You might feel some pulling, pinching or an intense cold in the first few minutes, but this soon passes as the area becomes numbed. Then you just sit back and let the technology do its work. After your treatment, the area will be massaged for a few minutes to help with the cell breakdown.

We’ll be here to help you throughout the process. As it’s a non-surgical procedure, there’s no recovery time needed, so you’ll be able to leave the clinic as soon as you’re ready and get straight back to everyday activities. You might experience some redness of the skin, minor bruising, swelling, tingling or numbing afterwards, but this will subside quickly. A few weeks later, you’ll have a follow-up appointment to check that you’re happy with the results. It can take around two to three months to see the full results of your CoolSculpting treatment so if you have a special occasion that you want to look your best for, make sure you book well in advance.

Cool-Sculpting frequently asked questions

You’ll have the opportunity to ask your surgeon any questions as part of your consultation, but to start the ball rolling here are the answers to some that our patients most frequently ask.

CoolSculpting FAQs

Around the world, more than five million CoolSculpting treatments have been performed and 52 peer-reviewed papers have assessed its ability to deliver effective and safe treatment. The applicator contains a sensor that automatically shuts down the system if it detects that your skin has dropped below -11 degrees Celsius, ensuring each treatment is safe. As with any treatment or procedure, there are always potential risks however, these will be explained in full during your consultation.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that requires patients to miss up to a week of work in order to recover from their surgery. Liposuction patients also need to wear compression garments, sometimes for several weeks. In contrast, CoolSculpting involves no needles or anaesthesia most patients do not need to take any time off work.

Treating one area of the body with CoolSculpting takes an average of 35-45 minutes, though this may be more of less depending on the treatment area . If you want to treat several areas in the same session, this can take anywhere between one and three hours. As you can’t treat the same area more than once in a session, you may require more than one visit.

You may be suitable for CoolSculpting is you have small, stubborn pockets of fat that seem resistant to exercise. However, at your free consultation we’ll ask more questions about your areas of concern, medical history, and why you want the fat freezing treatment just to make sure that it is the most suitable procedure for you.

How many sessions of CoolSculpting you need will depend on the area you are treating and the size of the fatty build-up that you’re trying to reduce. We’ll be able to give you more detailed advice and guidance once you have been assessed at your free consultation.

There is no recovery period from CoolSculpting treatments. During your post-treatment massage, you may experience anything from a slight tingling sensation to mild discomfort. However, this will soon pass and you are able to return to your normal routine on the same day.

The fat cells destroyed by CoolSculpting will not come back. Over a period of three weeks to six months, they are naturally processed and absorbed by your body’s lymphatic system. If you maintain a balanced diet and exercise regularly, the results of your CoolSculpting sessions will be maximised. However, if you follow a poor diet and move less, there is no reason why fat could not build up in the same areas again (this is in extreme cases).
