No matter how long they spend in the gym or how good their diet is, some people find that there are stubborn areas of fat on their body that just can’t be shifted. If this sounds familiar, then CoolSculpting could be the right treatment for you. We’ve put together everything you need to know about this procedure, from how much CoolSculpting costs to what the treatment entails.

What is CoolSculpting and how does fat freezing work?

Despite spending hours in the gym or at exercise classes, we can find that we have areas of fat that just won’t shift.

CoolSculpting, or fat freezing treatment, involves cooling targeted fat cells to -11 degrees Celsius. At that temperature the fat cells die and, over the next few weeks, are naturally processed by your body.

Based on Cryolipolysis® technology, CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared solution that involves no surgery, anaesthesia, needles or downtime. In fact, treating one area of the body can take just 35-45 minutes, depending on which area is being treated. The treatment can reduce fat across all body areas and gives you long-term results that you can maintain through healthy diet and exercise.

There are many areas of the body that can be treated with CoolSculpting in our UK clinics. For instance, we can offer CoolSculpting of the chin, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, chest and back. We can also freeze stomach fat, flanks (also known as love handles), and the buttocks. Why would you need CoolSculpting?

If you are finding it difficult to achieve the results you want from dieting and exercise alone, fat freezing treatment might be for you. And if you’re committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle after your treatments, you can enjoy the results for years to come.

Areas of the body which can be treated with CoolSculpting include thighs, flanks (love handles), chin, stomach, upper arms, and the male chest (moobs).

Understanding the CoolSculpting machine

The CoolSculpting machine is handheld and non-invasive, so there are no needles or anaesthetics to worry about.

First of all, your practitioner will fit a gel pad on the area to be treated, before placing the applicator above that. It is positioned to deliver controlled cooling and vacuum suction to the targeted fat. It also contains a sensor that automatically shuts down the system if it detects that your skin has dropped below -11C.

What happens during fat freezing treatment?

Here’s a step-by-step guide to what you can expect during your fat freezing treatment at Transform.

Step by step guide

Firstly, you’ll meet your patient advisor and chat about why you’re considering cold freeze for fat loss. You’ll have plenty of time to talk through the area you’d like treated, the likely CoolSculpting cost, our finance options, and when you’d like to have the treatment. If you feel ready, we’ll then book you in for your free consultation with one of our fat freezing experts.

At your free consultation, your practitioner will ask you about the results you want to achieve from the fat freezing treatment. You can discuss every aspect of body contouring, from the different methods and recovery time to the benefits and potential CoolSculpting risks, with no obligation to go ahead. There are various methods of body contouring, from surgical liposuction for larger body areas to less invasive procedures such as vaser liposuction and CoolSculpting. Your practitioner will discuss the best technique for you by assessing the area, or areas, you would like to have treated and the amount of fat you’d like to have removed. Our JCCP-registered practitioners are extremely skilled and knowledgeable, and they’re happy to answer any questions you have. If you feel ready to go ahead, we can book your fat freezing treatment appointment for a date and time that suits you.

On the day of your fat freezing treatment, you’ll meet with your practitioner so you can go through any last-minute questions. When it comes to CoolSculpting, how long it takes will depend on the area you’re having treated – but as it’s a non-surgical procedure, it usually takes less than two hours to complete. Firstly, a gel pad and applicator will be applied to the area. You might feel some pulling, pinching or intense cold in the first few minutes, but this soon passes as the area becomes numbed. Then you just sit back and let the technology do its work. After your treatment, the area will be massaged for a few minutes to help with the cell breakdown.

As one of the UK’s leading CoolSculpting providers, rest assured we’ll be here to help you throughout the process. As this cold freeze fat loss method is non-surgical, there’s no recovery time needed, so you’ll be able to leave the clinic as soon as you’re ready and get straight back to everyday activities. You might experience some fat freezing side effects like redness of the skin, minor bruising, swelling, tingling or numbing afterwards, but this will subside quickly. A few weeks later, you’ll have a follow-up appointment to check that you’re happy with the results. It can take around 2 months after CoolSculpting to see the full results of your treatment, so if you have a special occasion that you want to look your best for, make sure you book well in advance.

CoolSculpting frequently asked questions

During your consultation, you’ll have the opportunity to ask your expert practitioner any questions you may have – but to start the ball rolling, here are the answers to some questions we’re most frequently asked by our patients.

CoolSculpting FAQs

This is a treatment which involves using a specialist machine to cool areas of fat to -11 degrees Celsius. This safely kills fat cells in the targeted area, which are then naturally processed by your body. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, non-surgical weight-loss method that involves no needles or anaesthetic – so you can carry on with your day-to-day life straight after treatment.

Many people wonder does fat freezing really work on stubborn areas? And the answer is yes – this cold freeze fat loss method is an effective way to get rid of fat that won’t shift through normal diet and exercise. The average weight loss for CoolSculpting varies from patient to patient, but the process can provide as much as a 27% reduction of fat.

Around the world, more than seven million CoolSculpting treatments have been performed and 52 peer-reviewed papers have assessed its ability to deliver effective and safe treatment. The applicator contains a sensor that automatically shuts down the system if it detects that your skin has dropped below -11 degrees Celsius, ensuring each fat freezing treatment is safe. As with any procedure, there are always potential CoolSculpting risks, however these will be explained in full during your consultation.

Many patients ask us what the difference between lipo and fat freeze treatments are. Essentially, liposuction is a surgical procedure that’s carried out under general anaesthetic, and requires patients to miss up to a week of work to recover from their surgery. Liposuction patients also need to wear compression garments, sometimes for several weeks. Unlike lipo, fat freeze treatments are non-invasive and involve no needles or anaesthesia, and most patients don’t need to take any time off work.

If you choose to have CoolSculpting, how long it takes to complete will depend on the size of the treatment area. To give you a rough idea, fat freezing one area of the body takes an average of 35-45 minutes, though this may be more or less depending on the area being treated. If you want to treat several parts of your body in the same session, such as CoolSculpting your arms, stomach and back, this can take anywhere between one and three hours. As you can’t treat the same area more than once in a session, you may require more than one visit.

You may be suitable for CoolSculpting in our UK clinics if you have small, stubborn pockets of fat that seem resistant to exercise. However, at your free consultation we’ll ask more questions about your areas of concern, medical history, and why you want the fat freezing treatment, to make sure that it’s the most suitable procedure for you.

The number of fat freezing treatments you need will depend on the area you’re treating and the size of the fatty build-up that you’re trying to reduce. For example, chin fat freezing may take less time than CoolSculpting the stomach, because it’s a smaller surface area. We’ll be able to give you more detailed advice and guidance once you have been assessed at your free consultation.

One of the benefits of choosing the cold freeze fat loss method is that there’s no recovery period – you can leave the clinic the same day. During your post-treatment massage, you may experience some CoolSculpting side effects, which can vary from a slight tingling sensation to mild discomfort. However, this will soon pass, and you’ll be able to return to your normal daily routine after your treatment.

CoolSculpting and weight loss go hand in hand, as the fat cells destroyed by the machine will not come back. Over a period of three weeks to six months, they are naturally processed and absorbed by your body’s lymphatic system. If you maintain a balanced diet and exercise regularly, the results of your fat freezing sessions will be maximised. However, if you follow a poor diet and move less, there is no reason why fat could not build up in the same areas again (this is in extreme cases).

Transform offers fat freezing treatments at two of our state-of-the-art facilities: Manchester (19 York Street, M2 3BA) and Birmingham (38 Highfield Road, B15 3ED). We’re proud to offer patients the highest standard of care across our facilities, all of which are Care Quality Commission registered.

CoolSculpting can target fat in many areas of the body. Whether you’d like to freeze belly fat, love handles or stubborn areas on your back, or whether you’re interested in CoolSculpting your face, neck, thighs or another area, our experts are here to help you. During your consultation, you can chat through any areas you’d like to target, and your patient advisor will create a bespoke treatment plan in line with your needs.

Many of our patients question, ‘Does CoolSculpting affect fertility?’ As fat freezing is regarded as a safe procedure and is non-invasive, it should not affect fertility or any part of your reproductive system.

Yes, you can drive after CoolSculpting treatment. There is no recovery period needed following fat freezing, meaning you can go about your normal day to day activities once your procedure has finished.

As with all types of cosmetic surgery and aesthetic treatments, there are some CoolSculpting risks to be aware of. After the treatment, you may have some slight bruising, tingling or numbing in the treated area, and you may also notice some redness of the skin. These CoolSculpting side effects will ease off fairly quickly – usually within two or three days.

We understand that everyone’s needs are different. That’s why we create a personalised treatment plan for you, so you can achieve the results that you want. During your consultation, you’ll chat to your advisor about which area of your body you’d like to treat. There are many areas suitable for CoolSculpting, like inner thighs, the tummy, the chin, back, and flanks. Once your advisor has an idea of where you’d like treated, they can let you know the total CoolSculpting cost. This will vary depending on the size of the area you’re having treated, and how many sessions you’ll need. As well as giving you the CoolSculpting price, your advisor can talk you through the various payment options available, including our 12-month interest-free finance. This allows you to spread the fat freezing cost over 12 monthly repayments – but please note this is subject to individual status, and terms and conditions apply. You can find out more about spreading the CoolSculpting cost through our partner Omni Capital Retail Finance Ltd on our dedicated finance page.
