After practicing medicine for 12 years, in 2001 he specialised in upper gastrointestinal surgery. He is a fully qualified and accredited general surgeon and is developing the NHS, as well as private obesity surgery services in Gloucester. As an expert in the field, Mr Hewin set up an NHS morbid obesity service in Gloucestershire, which has been recognised by the South West Specialist Commissioners as a Centre of Excellence.

Mr Hewin has a wealth of experience which he has gained throughout his career in hospitals in the UK and throughout Europe. He has presented research about obesity surgery at national and international medical forums. He is also committed to working with the British Obesity Surgery Patient Association as an elected trustee, to provide greater access of weight loss surgery to those who need it.

Our surgeons are hand-picked for their advanced skillset and experience in their designated field. We never compromise in our patient care. All our surgeons work with us under practising privileges agreements and are registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), holding a Licence to Practice. Our surgeons have an annual appraisal and continue to develop professionally during their careers. Once every 5 years, all doctors go through a GMC revalidation process. They are granted Practising Privileges via our Clinical Governance and Compliance Committee, and they carry their own professional indemnity insurance.

While our surgeons and clinical teams have carried out thousands of procedures during their careers, they never forget that it may be your first. It’s our aim to make your experience as positive as your outcome after treatment.
