Why consider liposuction?

People may choose to have liposuction because sometimes even the strictest diet and exercise regime just can’t shift stubborn fat or tackle an uneven body shape. Depending on the area and amount of body fat to be removed, surgical liposuction or VASER liposuction may help to even out your body proportions or slim a particular area.

To find out more about who, what and why thousands are using liposuction take a look at our Liposuction Shape Shifting infographic on our blog.

Liposuction can be an excellent way to shape, tone and contour specific body areas. Your body shouldn't replace the fat cells removed from these areas, so each method of liposuction can deliver a long-lasting change to your body shape.

There are various methods of liposuction, from surgical liposuction for larger body areas to the less invasive ‘SmartLipo’ procedures including CoolSculpting and Vaser Lipo. Depending on the area you’re having treated and the amount of fat to be removed, your surgeon will discuss the best technique for you. At your surgical consultation you will also learn how long your procedure will take, the recovery time and when you’ll see the end results.

All patients attend an initial appointment with a patient care co-ordinator, followed by a consultation with one of our liposuction surgeons. At your consultation, your surgeon will help determine which method of liposuction is best suited for your needs as well as your health and a suitable recovery programme.

Each surgery and patient is different but your chosen liposuction method may depend on:

  • Your general helath
  • Your BMI - check your BMI here
  • Patient medical history
  • Treatment of body area(s) e.g. stomach, thigh, neck
  • Recovery timeframes e.g. when can you go back to work?
  • Cost / financing

Your liposuction co-ordinator will take you through the surgery process, provide examples of before and after case studies and help discuss your liposuction costs as well as liposuction financing options.

Q. What is the maximum amount of fat that can be removed?

A: This can be anything between 3 – 4 litres of fat per operation. Anything more than this and we would recommend multiple surgeries.

Q. How long will I need off work after Liposuction surgery?

A: The recovery time after Liposuction can be relatively quick and you may be able to go back to work after a few days. We generally advise you to take a week off to ensure the best recovery.

Q. What areas can be treated?

A: Liposuction can treat any area of the body, but popular areas include hips, thighs, stomach, chin, knees and bottom.
