What is Surgical Liposuction?
Surgical Liposuction is the most traditional form of Liposuction and involves fat being sucked either via pump or syringe. As with Laser and VASER liposuction, this method requires surgery to get results.
Surgical liposuction or fat removal surgery helps remove stubborn areas of fat, typically in arms, thighs, stomach, hips, chin or knees. These might be fat deposits that have been increasingly resistant to diet and exercise, so can be used to help sculpt body shape from perhaps a disproportionate figure.
Advantages of Surgical Liposuction
Whilst the surgery won’t remove cellulite or stretch marks, surgical lipo can help deliver a long-lasting change to your body shape. Benefits include:
- Better option for targeting larger areas of body fat such as stomach, thighs, bottom or hips
- Permanent fat cell removal
- Targets difficult fat deposits
- Immediate results
What the procedure involves
The surgery usually takes between one and three hours, depending upon the amount of fat to be removed. Surgical liposuction can be done under local anaesthetic for smaller areas but it more often requires a general anaesthetic, so you may need to stay overnight in one of our purpose built Transform hospitals.
Your surgeon will inject a salt water solution into the fatty area to be treated to break up the fat before inserting a thin metal tube called a cannula into the area. The fat is sucked out via the cannula using a vacuum pump (liposuction) or a syringe (liposculpture). The tube may need to be inserted a few more times to remove all the fat. The small incisions made often do not require any stitches so will heal by themselves and be unnoticeable in time.
