Why consider ear correction?
We don’t often get the chance to cover up our ears. So if you’re self-conscious about the shape, size or position of your ears, we know it can really affect your confidence. You might shy away from certain hairstyles or even suffer from some teasing.
Ear correction surgery – or otoplasty – is a speedy and safe way to reshape or re-position your ears so you don’t just look better, you feel better and have more confidence too.
What is otoplasty?
Ear correction surgery is a straightforward procedure that takes no more than two hours. It’s performed under local anaesthetic, so there’s no hospital stay and a fast recovery time.
Otoplasty refers to any ear correction procedure that involves removing or reshaping the cartilage that makes up your ears. The procedure can ‘pin back’ ears that stick out, make larger ears smaller or improve the ears’ appearance if they’ve become misshapen from activities like rugby or boxing.
Talk to us about ear correction
If you’re considering ear correction, the first step is to book a free consultation to meet with one of our Patient Care Co-ordinators. You’ll talk about the overall process and the results you’d like to achieve with ear correction surgery. You'll also be able to view a selection of before and after photographs to see the results of our previous patients surgery.
Then we’ll invite you to a free consultation with one of our otoplasty surgeons. This is when you’ll discuss the exact details of your ear correction procedure and we’ll be able to tell you the price of your surgery before you decide to go ahead.
To see how each stage of the process works, take a quick look at our step-by-step guide. This shows you how we’re here to support and advise you before, during and after otoplasty.
Ear correction - what the procedure involves
Your procedure will be performed in one of our Transform hospitals. These are purpose built for cosmetic surgery and every member of the hospital team is specially trained in cosmetic surgery patient care. So, you’ll be in expert hands throughout your time with us.
You will know well in advance which ear correction method your surgeon will use. Usually this will involve making incisions behind your ears and then removing and/or reshaping the cartilage, so any scars will be hidden. Most of our patients leave the hospital within a few hours of their procedure.
*Cosmetic surgery results and benefits can vary and are different for each individual. As such, Transform cannot guarantee specific results.
Your ears will be sore, swollen and bruised to begin with and the area will be bandaged. You will need to wear this ‘full’ bandage for about a week, during which time you won’t be able to drive because it will muffle your hearing. We’ll remove the bandage at your follow-up appointment and you might then need to wear a smaller headband at night for a few more weeks until your ears are fully healed.
Before you go home we’ll talk to you about caring for your ears, make your follow-up appointment and give you the number for our 24/7 patient helpline. If you have any worries you can speak to a member of our clinical team, day or night.
We usually advise that you take a week off work for the initial healing period, and it’ll be around six weeks before you’ll be able to resume activities like contact sports and swimming.
