Nose Surgery Recovery

Continuing care after your procedure

At Transform, we won’t pass you from person to person. You’ll be in the care of your own dedicated nurse and surgeon from your first consultation until you’re fully recovered.

It’s important to remember that cosmetic surgery is no different from any other kind of surgery. That’s why we put a lot of emphasis on your immediate and longer-term aftercare. Before you leave hospital we’ll advise you on what to do – and not do – to ensure a speedy recovery. You’ll also have several post-op appointments to ensure you’re healing well and pleased with the results.

When your surgeon is happy for you to go home, you’ll be discharged to rest and recuperate. It’s essential that you’ve arranged for someone to drive you.

Before you leave hospital your nurse will give you some advice on caring for your nose and arrange your post-op appointment at the clinic for around a week later. This is when we’ll remove your splint if you have one; you mustn’t attempt to remove it yourself.

You’ll also see your surgeon for a review appointment around six weeks after your operation to check on your progress and arrange any further aftercare you might need.

Recovering at home - top tips!

After your operation you’ll feel sore with bruising and swelling for at least 7-14 days, so many of our patients decide to book some time off work for this period.

Our staff and former patients also have these tips for recovering from rhinoplasty:

Transform Tip #1

Your nurse will prescribe pain medication if needed. Avoid taking aspirin or ibuprofen as these may affect the healing process

    • Transform Tip #2

You may suffer minor nose bleeds for a few days. To help with this, try to keep your head up as much as possible and don’t have a hot bath for a week or so

    • Transform Tip #4

You can’t blow your nose for a week after the operation. So just have loads of tissues for wiping up any drips. Not your sleeves!

    • Transform Tip #3

You’ve got to breathe through your mouth for a few days whilst your nose is ‘bunged up’. I used lip balm to help with dry lips – those small tins of petroleum jelly are great too

    • Transform Tip #5

I stayed away from dusty and smoky places to start with so as not to bother my nose whilst it was healing
