In the Patient’s Words

When I was 35, I was diagnosed with problems in my hips. At the time, I saw a consultant and was told I was too young to have anything done about them.

“I was told I was much too young to have anything done about it.”

So I carried on living with the discomfort. For many years, I found ways to manage it and continued working, travelling and getting on with everyday life.

The hips themselves weren’t always what bothered me most.

“The hips weren’t really the problem. It was more the knees and the lower back.”

Over the years, I had to deal with the pain associated with my hips, and eventually it became harder to ignore.

About six years ago, I started a new role that involved a lot of travelling. Spending long periods sitting on aeroplanes became particularly uncomfortable.

“I found travelling particularly uncomfortable.”

Eventually, I felt I needed to explore my options. I felt I had two choices: wait on the waiting list or consider going private.

A colleague recommended Transform Medical, so I contacted them.

“Transform was recommended to me by a colleague.”

They got back to me very quickly, and after consultations and clinical assessment, I went on to have both hips replaced at different points in time.

I was particularly impressed by how efficiently everything was managed.

“I was really impressed with the efficiency at which the procedure was conducted.”

Since having the surgery, it’s the everyday things that I notice most.

I can now sit on an aeroplane for a long flight without constantly needing to move because of discomfort.

“I can sit on an airplane for eight hours without moving.”

I can also do manual work without the back pain I experienced before, and I have very little pain in my knees as well.

“I can do manual work without having back pain.”

“I have very little pain in my knees as well.”

Looking back, I feel that having the surgery has made a real difference to my day-to-day life.

For years, I thought I simply had to live with the pain. I adapted, managed and carried on. Eventually, I decided to explore another option.

For me, it has made a huge difference.

“For me, it’s totally transformed my life.”

The surgery has really changed my life.
