5 top tips for self-care this February

Make February the month you fall in love with you! Is there something you want to add to your daily routine? Something you’ve been thinking about for a while but never done? Or there might even be something you want to change about your physical appearance?

There are plenty of things that we can do to make ourselves feel better. These vary depending on how people are feeling and what they want to focus on. We’ve complied a list of our top 5 self-care tips.

Set yourself a daily routine

It’s no secret that having a set routine brings a level of clarity and calmness to your day, even if that routine is busy. It allows you to create and shape how your own day goes and make time for the things that matter to you. Having a routine lets you control everything you do in a day, from the moment you wake up until you go back to sleep. It lets you put the focus on you and your goals.

Setting and achieving daily goals will lead to a feeling of accomplishment and lower your stress levels. In turn, this can help your mental health. Ending your day feeling good about everything you’ve achieved will help you get a better night’s sleep too.

Regulate your sleep pattern

Similar to a daytime routine, a routine at night is just as important. Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, even on weekends, can lead to a more regular and natural sleeping pattern. When your body has adjusted to this routine, you’ll be able to fall asleep much more quickly and the sleep you have will be more peaceful.

Getting the right amount of shut-eye is essential for us, and the recommendation is approximately 7-9 hours’ sleep each night. Not getting enough sleep can affect our body’s ability to recover and prepare for the day ahead, because we need to feel rested to take on any challenges we face. Additionally, sleep improves memory, mood, and cognitive functions, as well as keeping our immune system working well.

Get regular exercise and eat well

Exercise and eating healthily go hand in hand. A balanced diet is essential, as is having the opportunity to exercise. Food can be used to fuel our body for exercise, or help us recover from our exertions. Exercise generally improves our overall mood because the endorphin release that comes from it gives us an extra boost and, in turn, builds our confidence.

And exercise doesn’t need to be strenuous. You can start exercising by going for short walks daily or by signing up to fitness influencers’ programmes online while gyms are closed during lockdown.

There are plenty of healthy eating hints and tips available on the internet and on social media. Take inspiration from them and ensure you are eating 3 healthy meals per day to aid recovery and prepare you for any exercise you’ve committed to.

Proper skin care is crucial

Great skin is one of the keys to looking good and keeping your look fresh. Give your skin care routine a makeover, and decide if you currently do too much or too little. Perhaps there’s something missing from it, or an issue that was focus point previously has now improved. The great thing with skin care is that we can change it up as much as we need or want to.
