Mr Super grew up in Hamilton, Scotland and qualified in medicine in London in 1987. He has been a consultant surgeon for over 20 years.

As well as working for more than three decades in UK hospitals, Mr Super has gained a wealth of experience through undertaking bariatric training whilst visiting units in Belgium and Austria in 2001. He also participated in endoscopic training in laboratories in Hamburg and Strasbourg, where their teams further developed bariatric surgical skills and band insertion.

Shortly after his additional training in Europe, Mr Super set up the bariatric service in Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham. Nearly 20 years later, this has grown to be one of the biggest in the country, offering laparoscopic bariatric procedures to NHS patients from the Midlands and across the UK.

Mr Super is a highly experienced surgeon who performs over 200 laparoscopic gastric band procedures each year and he has undertaken more than 10,000 operations during his career. He is an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Birmingham, as well as presenting regularly at National Scientific meetings.

Our surgeons are hand-picked for their advanced skillset and experience in their designated field. We never compromise in our patient care. All our surgeons work with us under practising privileges agreements and are registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), holding a Licence to Practice. Our surgeons have an annual appraisal and continue to develop professionally during their careers. Once every 5 years, all doctors go through a GMC revalidation process. They are granted Practising Privileges via our Clinical Governance and Compliance Committee, and they carry their own professional indemnity insurance.

While our surgeons and clinical teams have carried out thousands of procedures during their careers, they never forget that it may be your first. It’s our aim to make your experience as positive as your outcome after treatment.
