A Beginners Guide to Fillers

Who wouldn’t want to freeze time on the ageing process? With the day-to-day pressures looking youthful brings, heightened by social media, we’re always on the look out for a new go to youth boosting solution.

Surgical procedures aren’t for the fainthearted so fillers are a great way to hold off going under the knife. Fillers and Botox can work hand in hand as a ‘mini facelift’ without the risks and downtime that comes with a surgical facelift …bonus!

Everyone is different but here at Transform women on average begin non-surgical treatments in their late twenties/early 30s. We would advise patients to hold off as long as they can before opting for non-surgical procedures, but when the time is right for you, fillers are a great way of adding volume and shape to your face.

We all have that one area we have a love/hate relationship with and with 40% of women now listing loss of youthful plumpness as their main facial concern, fillers are a great way of pressing pause on the ageing clock without turning to surgical procedures. Whether it’s thinning lips, deep set lines or wrinkles, there is a type of filler that can help!

Day to day stresses along with sun exposure, smoking and air pollution are all elements than can speed up the ageing process causing wrinkles to develop and skin to sag.

Dermal fillers replace the collagen that’s been lost to help you look fresher and contribute to a happier you.

At Transform, we offer a number of dermal fillers, which spread across the full Juvederm, Sculptra and Restylane ranges all of which are FDA approved, tried and tested.  With this in mind, we look at the options available and their benefits below.

Lip fillers

Lip fillers are definitely having a moment and with the term being one of the most Googled beauty terms in the UK this year it’s hard to ignore the demand. Kylie Jenner is one of the most high profile celebrities to have admitted to having the procedure and as a result is one of the most referenced celebrities in consultations this year.

Lip fillers are a great way of adding definition and volume to the lip area. They are most popular with 18-30s, highlighting the impact celebrity treatments and procedures are having on the younger generation. Having said that, thinning lips are a natural cause of ageing so it is common for our patients to have lip fillers all the way up to their 50s+.

The procedure is priced from £215 with top ups recommended every 4-6 months.

Another benefit of the treatment is the minimal amount of pain involved. A numbing cream is applied to the area prior to the treatment before the product is injected and there is no downtime attached to the procedure. Lips usually appear slightly swollen initially before settling down within a week, allowing you to go out and show off that perfect pout!

Cheek fillers

Another popular area of the face to plump is the cheeks. Cheek fillers are widely available at Transform and create shape and definition to the face which will no doubt have all your friends and family asking for your youth boosting beauty secrets! Similarly to lip fillers, the procedure is fairly painless and the filler usually lasts around 18 months before a top up is needed.

As well as helping the ageing process, cheek fillers are a great way of injecting a fresher, plumper appearance following drastic weight loss, which can cause skin to sag.

Transform has seen a rise in cheek filler enquires over the past year which we can link to the intense fitness trend. Drastic weight loss can often leave the face looking drawn and tired so more and more people are leaning towards non-surgical procedures including fillers to add volume, youth and confidence post weight loss!

Nasolabial and Hand fillers

Cheek and lip fillers may be the most common filler procedures but it’s worth mentioning a couple of the other options available at Transform. Nasolabial folds also known as the deep skin folds that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth, typically become more pronounced as you grow older. Nasolabial fillers will tighten that area and improve skin elasticity.

These fillers are a great way to prevent ageing and last around 15 months before a top up is needed.

Shifting focus away from the face, another filler procedure offered at Transform are hand fillers. It’s no secret that your hands are one of the first areas to show your age, hand fillers will plump out the skin, reducing visible lines and wrinkles.

How long do fillers last?

The amount of time fillers can last differ from case to case. This can be due to a number of factors including a persons metabolism, how much filler is injected and which filler you have injected during the procedure.

It is possible that high impact exercise such as running or HIIT training can lead to a breakdown in filler so people who regularly participate in these kind of workouts may notice they will need to top up their filler more regularly.

Taking the plunge

Undergoing a non-surgical procedure can be a nervous time for the patient whether it’s your first time or tenth!

At Transform, we always encourage patients to build a rapport with their injector prior to treatment. The professionals are always on hand to answer any queries, no question is a silly question!

It is imperative that you tell your injector exactly what you want out of the treatment. Throughout the procedure, the practitioner will give you the option of holding a mirror to watch throughout so you can pinpoint any areas you want to plump up a little more!

All of our filler treatments are carried out by qualified nurses or doctors but we advise and recommend all patients to do as much research as they can before having a treatment.
