Do I need a breast uplift?

The benefits of having breast uplift surgery

Breast uplift surgery, also called a breast lift, mastopexy or ‘boob job’, aims to raise and tighten the tissue around the breasts to create a perky, youthful appearance. Here are just some of the things you need to know before having a breast uplift.

What is a breast lift?

An uplift is a type of breast surgery which involves tightening the surrounding skin to lift and elevate the breasts against the chest. During a breast uplift, excess tissue is removed, and the breasts are reshaped to raise the breasts. Uplifts are often combined with breast enlargement surgery to achieve a young, voluptuous look. There are many reasons why women opt for breast uplift surgery.

Do I need a breast lift?

You may be thinking about breast uplift surgery if you have drooping or sagging breasts, a lack of firmness or nipples facing downwards. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your breasts, you can consider breast uplift surgery at any age. When you begin to attend consultations with surgeons, you’ll be able to discuss your desired results and find out whether you are a good candidate for breast uplift surgery.

Breast lift surgery is often opted for:

·         If the breasts have dropped as a result of ageing

·         If the breasts have lost volume after pregnancy & breastfeeding

·         If the breasts are flatter due to excessive weight loss

·         If the breasts are sagging and need additional support because they are large or heavy

Are there risks involved with breast lift surgery?

As with any form of elective surgery, there are risks involved. Loss of nipple sensitivity is a possibility when undergoing breast lift surgery and will be explained to you in your consultation along with any risks involved with the procedure. Breast uplift surgery involves the remodelling of the breast tissue and therefore you may experience a change in the sensations around your nipple area, scarring, or breast asymmetry as a result.

Some women worry that they will not be able to breastfeed after having an uplift. There is the risk that you will not be able to breastfeed after an uplift, so we do always recommend you opt for surgery once you have finished having children.

What is recovery like after a breast lift?

Following breast uplift surgery, we always recommend two weeks off work. This may vary depending on the nature of your job- for example, recovery may be longer if your day-to-day tasks involve manual labour such as heavy lifting. Immediately after surgery, your breasts may feel swollen and sore and there will be bruising, but we’ll be on hand to provide pain relief to help with any discomfort. The recovery process is gradual, and it may take a few months for the scars to fade and boobs to settle. Within 3-6 months, your breasts should be settled in their new uplifted position. We call this process the `drop and fluff`.
