Do I need a breast implant removal & replacement?

Breast implant removal and replacement

If you’ve had a boob job, you’ll know that your breast implants aren’t designed to last forever and eventually they will need replacing. Although the 10-year mark is commonly cited as the time to have your implants replaced, this may not always be necessary as breast implants don’t actually have a specific lifespan.

Here at Transform, our surgeons advise having a re-augmentation between 10 to 20 years after the original procedure but the exact amount of time your implants will last vary from person and person. However, it is important to remember that even if you’ve not experienced any problems, we still recommend getting your implants checked over by a surgeon around 10 years after your surgery to make sure everything’s still okay.

Since it is inevitable that your breast implants will need replacing in the future, here are our answers to the most commonly asked questions about the procedure:

What is a breast re-augmentation?

Often called a ‘second boob job’ – a re-augmentation involves removing your original implants, and any scar tissue, then replacing them with new ones which can be a new type of implant, shape and size. It can also be combined with a breast uplift as part of the surgery.

What are the reasons for having a breast re-augmentation?

· It has been 10 years or more since your last boob job and your surgeon has advised that they should be removed and replaced.

Your implants may be completely healthy – but you might want to change how they look aesthetically, some of these reasons might include:

· The look of your breasts may have changed since having children or breastfeeding

· You may have gained or lost a large amount of weight

· You feel as though you initially choose implants that were too large or too small and you want to change the size of your breasts.

· You want to change the shape of your breasts, for example, perhaps you originally choose round implants and you’d now prefer more natural looking, teardrop shaped implants.

What are the signs of needing a breast re-augmentation?

· Your implants have moved to create a gap between your breasts

· Your implants have started to rotate creating an uneven look

· Your implants are `bottoming out` (lateral displacement)

· Your implants have become hard to the touch and misshapen (capsular contracture)

· You are simply unhappy with the size, shape or position

How much does a breast re-augmentation cost and what are the next steps?

Each procedure is different and tailored to the individual so there isn’t a specific price. If you are thinking of having your implants removed followed by a breast re-augmentation then the best place to start would be to give our Contact Centre a call who can advise you on starting prices and book you in for a free consultation with a surgeon to see if a re-augmentation would be necessary, and if so, how much it will cost exactly.

If you had your breast surgery 10 years or more ago, or if you have any concerns at all about the look or feel of your implants then make the next steps and arrange a check-up with your Transform local clinic.
