He has worked as a consultant in Nottingham University Hospitals and in University Hospitals Birmingham.
After qualifying in medicine in 2001, Mr Cheema continued his surgical training in the UK to become the Member, and later a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Subsequently, he furthered his education and expertise by gaining a Masters in Reconstructive Microsurgery from Barcelona and clearing the European Board for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
The wealth of experience he has gained during his career in the UK and throughout Europe has allowed him to further his already extensive skills, including undertaking a 7-month fellowship at Europe’s largest cosmetic clinic, Akademikliniken, in Stockholm, Sweden – a centre which utilises the latest technology, advanced techniques and continuous research when training plastic surgeons worldwide. As a fellow, Mr Cheema was involved in over 500 cases and gained first-hand experience in planning and performing breast augmentation, mastopexy, breast reduction and abdominoplasties, as well as other complex procedures.
Additional fellowships that Mr Cheema has undertaken include becoming a Clinical Immersion Fellow at Hospital Sant Creu i Sant Pau, Barcelona, and a Hand Fellow at University Hospital Birmingham. He has attended international educational courses to further develop his knowledge and expertise, and has conducted numerous lectures and workshops to medical students throughout his career. He has taught for 7 years on an NHS accredited course of basic suturing skills for GPs. Since 2017, he has been a faculty member of FRCS (Plast) examination preparation course, actively involved in guiding and training the next generation of plastic surgeons in UK.
Mr Cheema has contributed to many peer-reviewed publications in high impact plastic surgery journals, like Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (PRS) journal, Aesthetic Surgery Journal (ASJ) and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery journal. He has also published a book entitled “Principles and Practice of Plastic Surgery”. He is currently working towards a qualifying law degree.
