We offer three different methods of varicose vein removal. Our non-surgical options include Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA), which uses laser light to seal the varicose vein from the inside. The other non-surgical option we provide is Radiofrequency VNUS Closure. Similar to EVLA, it uses heat instead of a laser to seal the vein from the inside.

Our surgical option is called Vein Avulsion, where a small incision is made into the skin and the varicose veins are removed by our highly qualified surgeons.

Varicose veins removal FAQs

More FAQs
How long does varicose vein removal take?
The procedure can be completed in around 45-60 minutes. This depends on which of the three different techniques is used – Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA), Radiofrequency VNUS Closure, or Vein Avulsion. Vein Avulsion treatment may take the longest as this is a surgical procedure.
Which surgical and non-surgical options are available?
You may opt for surgical or non-surgical treatment for varicose vein removal. Your options will be discussed in your consultation, where we’ll also talk about which one will give you the best results. Our non-surgical options include Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) which uses laser light to seal the varicose vein from the inside, and Radiofrequency VNUS Closure, which is similar to EVLA but uses heat instead of a laser to seal the vein from the inside. Our surgical option is called Vein Avulsion, where a small incision is made into the skin and the varicose veins are removed using a surgical hook.
Is the treatment painful?
Varicose vein removal usually requires a local anaesthetic, so you’ll be comfortable throughout the procedure.
How long will the results last?
The results are permanent, meaning you won’t need further treatment.
Is varicose vein removal safe?
Removing varicose veins is a safe and well-practiced procedure performed by our highly qualified surgeons and medical aesthetic practitioners.
Is this procedure suitable for everybody?
During your consultation, a review of your past and present medical history is discussed. The Consultant or nurse will choose the pre-operative tests considered to be appropriate, most of which are typically routine blood tests. If necessary, the medical team may request further tests, before your treatment commences.
Who will perform the treatment?

What can I expect after the procedure?
Slight discomfort is normal after varicose vein surgery. We should point out that pain thresholds vary from patient to patient. It is common to experience bruising and swelling in the early post operative period. This is entirely normal and will settle down naturally.
Is any aftercare required?
Following varicose vein removal treatment, most patients can walk and be discharged on the same day and are able to continue normal activities. A follow up appointment with the Nurse and Surgeon/Consultant is advised.
Is varicose vein removal safe?
We at Transform, work to ensure that we minimise the risks involved. Removing veins is a safe procedure.
What is the difference between varicose vein removal and thread vein removal?
At Transform we offer a range of difference vein removal treatments.

Varicose veins are swollen and enlarged veins frequently found in the legs or feet. They can often cause extreme discomfort due to their enlarged twisted shape. Our varicose vein removal treatments permanently remove problematic varicose veins through surgical or non-surgical procedures, the results of which are permanent.

Thread veins, or spider veins, are smaller in size and appear as small purple or blue thin veins usually found on the face, legs or arms. Removal treatments don't involve invasive surgery and there are a number of options available to help reduce thread vein visibility.
Will my vein treatment cost need to be paid upfront?
Varicose vein treatment cost will be discussed in your consultation and your consultant will talk to you in depth about our finance options.

With Transform, you will have the option of paying a deposit of just £500 and can choose either 12 monthly interest-free payments or spreading the cost over two to five years.

Next steps

We’re ready when you are

Your first appointment

The initial step will be to meet with your friendly and knowledgeable surgeon assistant. You’ll be able to talk to them about why you’re considering varicose vein removal, whether it’s right for you, the likely cost and finance options, and when you’d prefer to have the treatment. If you feel ready, we’ll then book you in for your free consultation with one of our consultant vascular surgeons.

Your treatment consultation

At your free consultation, your surgeon will ask you about the results you want to achieve. They’ll guide you through your varicose vein removal options to ensure you get the best results, and you can discuss every aspect of your treatment with no obligation to go ahead. Our surgeons are extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions you have. If you feel ready to proceed, we can book your treatment in for a date and time that suits you.

The treatment

On the day of your procedure, you’ll have time to ask any last-minute questions before the treatment begins. If you’re having the surgical varicose vein removal option, you’ll be put under general or local anaesthetic so that you don’t feel anything throughout the procedure. Your expert surgeon will begin by making a small incision under the vein and removing it with a surgical hook. Your incision will be stitched up and a temporary dressing will be applied. The procedure will take around 1 hour.

If you’ve opted for the non-surgical treatment, we’ll use a laser to close off the vein from the inside, which means it will no longer be in use. The non-surgical treatment will take around 45 minutes to complete.

Recovery

Once your procedure is finished, we’ll take you to your own private room to rest. You’ll generally be able to leave the clinic on the same day as your treatment. It’s normal to experience pain and swelling afterwards but this will subside during the following days. We’ll provide you with support stockings to help improve the circulation in your leg(s), and we advise you to wear these for 4 to 6 weeks post-treatment.

Aftercare

High quality aftercare is at the heart of what we do, so we’re here to support you. If you have any questions or concerns at all, you can contact our 24/7 helpline. You’ll be safe to continue with your regular activities after the procedure, but we’ll book a follow-up appointment with you to ensure that you’re recovering well.
