A hair transplant is a common surgical procedure that involves taking healthy hair follicles from one part of the head and implanting them on to bald or thinning areas, so that new hair can grow. Hair transplants can also be performed on eyebrow and facial hair.

Enhance how you look, change how you feel

Having a hair transplant can revive your confidence, especially if you’re experiencing baldness at a young age, or you find it hard to style your hair because it’s thinning.

Once the healthy hair follicles have been planted into the bald or thinning areas, the new hair will begin to grow, and you’ll see noticeable results within around 6 months. This is a permanent solution to the problem, and you’re likely to feel happier about your appearance and more confident after the procedure.

Let’s delve into the detail

As with all surgical procedures, it’s important to weigh up the risks involved against the benefits that the surgery can bring.

FAQ

Hair transplant FAQs

More FAQs
Is a hair transplant safe?
Yes, hair transplants are a common procedure and are carried out by our expert surgeons, who have a wealth of experience and knowledge.
How does hair transplant work?
A hair transplant works by taking hair follicles from one part of the head and placing them into the skin of the area that is either bald or thinning. The new follicles will settle in and start to grow hair in the place where it was lost, giving you a restored hairline.
Who is suitable for a hair transplant?
Hair transplants are suitable for men and women of all ages. Your surgeon will determine whether you’re suitable for the treatment by taking details of your medical history.
Is hair transplant surgery painful?
Having a hair transplant isn’t pain-free, but any soreness wears off after a couple of days and then you’ll be able to resume your regular activities.
What is the recovery time for hair transplant?
We advise taking a few days off work until your scalp has started to heal, and we recommend that you don’t participate in strenuous activity or wash your hair for 2 days.

Next steps

Behind the scenes care, to help you take centre stage

Your first appointment

The initial step will be to talk to your surgeon assistant over the phone. You’ll be able to talk to them about why you’re considering a hair transplant, whether it’s right for you, the likely cost and finance options, and when you’d like to have the procedure. Whenever you decide to book a surgery date, you can secure it for a minimum refundable deposit of £500. If you feel ready, we’ll then book you in for your free consultation your surgeon.

Your treatment consultation

At your free consultation, your surgeon will guide you through your hair transplant options to ensure you get the best results from treatment. You can discuss every aspect of your procedure, with no obligation to go ahead. This consultation can be carried out either over video chat or in person at your local clinic. Our surgeons and nurses are extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions you have. If you feel ready to proceed, we can book the procedure on a day and time that suits you.

The treatment

On the day of your surgery, you’ll meet with your surgeon so you can go through any last-minute questions. We offer two types of hair transplant at Transform.

The first is Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), a treatment sometimes known as “strip harvesting”. An area of healthy hair is transplanted onto an area of hair loss to stimulate hair growth, and you should start to see results a few months after treatment. FUT is suitable for people with longer hair, and it’s usually carried out in one half-day session.

A second option is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). This is a form of hair transplant that takes individual hair follicles from the back of the scalp. Fine incisions are made in the area of hair loss or thinning hair, and the follicle is inserted. It’s different from FUT in that there is no linear scarring, but there are smaller, individual scars, and so it can be more suitable for those who wear their hair short. There’s also a comparably shorter downtime for this procedure.

Recovery

You’ll be able to leave the clinic on the same day as you have your treatment. We recommend taking a couple of days off work, as your scalp is likely to feel sore once the treatment is complete. Taking over the counter pain killers will help. We’ll provide you with the medication that you need to take following your treatment, and our surgeons will talk you through the recovery process.

Aftercare

High quality aftercare is just as important as the treatment itself, so we’re here to support you. If you have any questions or concerns at all, you can contact our 24/7 helpline. We’ll book a follow up appointment to see how well your scalp is healing and book further reviews to check the progress. We recommend not washing the hair for 2 days after surgery and to avoid strenuous activity during that time too.
