Liposuction is a procedure used to remove excess body fat, in involves the suction of fatty tissues and excess fluid through a cannula. It is is a very quick and effective way of sculpting different areas of the body by removing stubborn fatty deposits permanently.
Sometimes, despite eating healthily and taking regular exercise, certain areas of the body prove difficult to shape and define because the fat simply refuses to shift.
Most commonly liposuction is performed on the buttocks, thighs and stomach, although it may also be used to shape the hips, knees, neck, upper arms and male breasts.
Also known as fat remoal surgery, fat reduction surgery, lipoplasty and liposculpture, liposuction liposuction can help reshape specific problem areas of the body through the removal of these pockets of fat. Because your body shouldn’t replace the fat cells removed from these areas, liposuction is regarded as a long-lasting surgical solution to excess fat, which should not return to the areas which have been treated.
Liposuction surgery can last between one to three hours depending on the amount of fat you are having removed. You can discuss this will your surgeon prior to your surgery who will be able to provide a better timescale based on your individual needs.
Following surgery, you will be in recovery for up to six weeks, although you will be able to return to work after approximately one week. In the months following surgery you will start to see results however please allow between one to three months to see final results.
Liposuction will leave minimal scarring in the treated area but over time this will fade.
Liposuction could be right for you if:
Liposuction could be right for you if, despite following a healthy diet and exercise regime, you have problem areas where excess body fat refuses to shift. You can also use liposuction to improve your body contour or if you are a weight loss patient who is looking to lose residual areas of fat. Liposuction is a great solution is you suffer from gynaecomastia (a condition where fatty breast tissue develops in men).
As well as traditional liposuction we also offer vaser liposuction. Vaser liposuction, or Vaser lipo for short, is a modern fat removal procedure that is less invasive and less painful than traditional liposuction. ‘Vaser’ stands for ‘vibration amplification of sound energy on resonance’. During treatment, Vaser lipo amplifies the natural vibration of fat cells in the body to break down stubborn, unwanted fat.
There are two methods of Vaser liposuction: the surgical method for large body areas, and the less invasive non-surgical liposuction method. The best technique for you will depend on the area you’re having treated, the amount of fat to be removed and your medical history. Your surgeon/doctor will advise you as to which is the best option for you.
